Scholarship season is underway at the Sacramento Region Community Foundation! Every year SRCF administers dozens of scholarships. These scholarships are available to graduating high school students and current college students in their pursuits of a college education. Award amounts and eligibility requirements vary, but all our scholarships are listed online complete with eligibility requirements and application instructions.

Amidst the recent budget cuts and rises in tuition costs, it has become ever more challenging to finance an education. SRCF is committed to ensuring that the students of the Sacramento Region have access to higher education and is proud to work with our family of donors to offer dozens of scholarships for the 2010-2011 school year.

Winter is on its way. The economic fallout has resulted in an increase of families and individuals new to homelessness or on the brink of homelessness. In Sacramento, we have a time-sensitive opportunity to attract matching federal funds targeted toward preventing homelessness for families who are suffering from the economic downturn, or getting them back into housing if they have already fallen off. For every community dollar raised, the federal match will be four dollars, up to a total of $2 Million.

The Sacramento Region Community Foundation is taking a leadership role as a response to one of the community’s greatest needs. We have agreed to raise $400,000 that will be leveraged into a $2 Million contribution for homelessness prevention and rapid rehousing. Please join the Foundation and its community of donors to raise these funds now in order to win the federal dollars and keep families and individuals in their homes and off the streets. Arts organizations across the region are struggling to survive in the current economic climate. While the Foundation continues to support organizations providing critical human services in our community, we are also committed to ensuring that art continues to thrive throughout the Sacramento Region. In December 2009, the Foundation awarded twelve organizations with Arts Opportunity Grants to support small to large organizations in ongoing programs and operations. In May the Sacramento Region Community Foundation brought Michael Kaiser (pictured on the left), President of the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, to address the Sacramento arts community. During this meeting Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson (pictured on the right) and Mr. Kaiser forged a partnership that is yielding benefits for all Sacramentans. On Friday, October 9, 2009 the Kennedy Center announced that Sacramento would be the launch city for the nationwide arts education initiative, "Any Given Child."
