Grants Advisory Board for Youth or GABY supports young people to learn about giving and serving and taking action on issues that they care about.

Last year, GABY awarded 18 grants of $500 each to youth-led projects in Sacramento. In an event at Sacramento City Hall on January 29, 2011, youth teams presented their projects that showcased how they would serve others and their communities. Mayor Kevin Johnson addressed more than 150 young people that were in attendance, encouraging them to continue their volunteerism. This year, the GABY board awarded 18 grants to youth-led projects that focused on the theme "Living Well." The projects were each unique in how they addressed the theme. Some projects focused on the importance of exercise to stay fit, while others aimed to teach younger children the value of healthy eating.

The test of the work will be in the implementation in the next few months of these projects. GABY wishes “good luck” to all the youth teams as they motivate other youth to care and to strengthen their communities.
